Pastor's Notes

The miracles Jesus performed during his public ministry were not feats of magic.  They were significant events because they were signs of his God-given power to heal.  The miracles of Jesus were also a living, loving, and tangible sign that the Kingdom of God had finally arrived on earth.  Jesus shows his loving concern in today’s Gospel by healing Simon’s mother-in-law, who was ill...

Announcement

Bishop Stika is pleased to announce the formation of the St. Luke Guild of East Tennessee, a Catholic Healthcare Ministry. This guild is envisioned to provide a means for Catholic physicians, nurses and allied health practitioners in East Tennessee to live out their vocation by applying the art and science of the healing professions to the glory of God among our neighbors in the region. The St. Luke Guild of East Tennessee has four major purposes: 1.) To affirm the principles of the Catholic faith in the science and practice of medicine and allied health; 2.) To assist the Diocese of Knoxville in the work of communicating Catholic medical ethics to the medical profession and society at large in East Tennessee; 3.) To enable Catholic healthcare professionals to know one another better and to work together with deeper mutual support and understanding; and 4.) To witness our faith through volunteering to help the least of those among us with our time and talent, utilizing our particular skills of healing.

Bishop Stika hopes to have every Catholic healthcare professional register on our new website, http://www.stlukeguild.org/ , so he can notify them about opportunities to build strong relationships with other healthcare professionals and provide quality educational (i.e. – Catholic Bioethics) and collegial opportunities to support their Catholic faith in the daily practice of healthcare. Furthermore, when a need arises in various areas of the Diocese, a call for volunteers can be accomplished via email. Please take a moment to register – simply click on the “Mailing List” tab on the http://www.stlukeguild.org/ web site. The St. Luke Guild of East Tennessee also can be accessed from the Diocesan website, http://www.dioknox.org/

This information will only be used for the purposes outlined above. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Bishop Stika’s guild coordinator, Pat O'Brien, MD, at wlmailhtml:pobrien@chartertn.net for more information.
